I studied a health science degree with studies in human physiology, reproductive biology and neuroscience, which majored in Psychology.

I completed research in health psychology in my Masters working with patients with Cystic Fibrosis. I had an interest in health from the beginning.  

Treating symptoms arising from childhood trauma was my initial career interest and I worked in a Child Sexual Abuse Service and general trauma services for several years, treating children, adolescents and adults who experienced child abuse. 

I worked with families, parents, child and adult survivors of abuse, and liaised with schools, health, police and child protection services. I worked across the wheatbelt for this service, in schools and multidisciplinary trauma treatment facilities.

I have continued to work in this area since. Childhood trauma has such significant effects on a person throughout their life and I am dedicated to assisting people to have treatment for this where possible, and live their lives less burdened.  

I then wanted to work with adult-onset trauma so I worked with a company called PeopleSense who work with the emergency services. This lead me to learn about Workers Compensation, liaison with physical health professionals and case management of physical and mental health claims. I have provided mediation services and organisational psychology services.

I was provided management opportunities and became Regional General Manager on the East Coast for PeopleSense as part of their expansion on the east coast. I worked and lived all across Australia, regional and cities. I completed an MBA which specialised in responsible leadership, sustainable business practices and a global perspective.

Then I had my babies, in Sweden away from my family. And the worlds seemed to align, an interest and understanding in health, trauma, child development and now with an added twist of mothers wellbeing and a vital opportunity to look after Mums. This is where Fildes Psychology began.

Our society does not prepare women to be informed around pregnancy, birth or parenting or to value these roles. Consequently, significant mental health can arise and individuals can be struggling alone without knowing they are part of a community and that most women struggle rather than being the minority. Parenting when you are traumatised from a birth, or parenting when you have your own childhood trauma is something I am honoured to assist my clients with.

A significant proportion of my clients in Fildes Psychology were women experiencing menopause. Again misinformation and societal judgements predisposed women to struggle in silence. This lengthy hormonal dysregulation greatly impacted their mental health and caused disruption to their relationships, work, wellbeing and family lives. This population also often had traumatic experiences from their childhood which they had not been able to or needed to process prior to menopause disrupting their wellbeing. This is a health condition, which better understood, can greatly improve the mental health and wellbeing of women.

I am a Clinical Psychologist so am competent in treating and diagnosing mental health disorders. I am able to treat Depression, Anxiety, ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, Body Dysmoprhia and other eating disorders, PTSD, etc. However, these special interest areas are important as I have training and experience making these areas of expertise.

I have a special interest in ADHD, and the overlap between the neurological impacts of developmental trauma. I have worked with young people with ADHD navigating the school system and with adults understanding the impacts later diagnosis has on their lives.
